Jennifer Lee, the director of 2013’s biggest film Frozen, has revealed whether the hit movie’s main character Elsa will be given a lesbian storyline in the sequel.
Since the release of Frozen, and it’s hit song Let It Go becoming somewhat of a LGBTQI anthem, traction for Frozen 2 to feature a gay character has swarmed social media – with the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend going viral.
When asked by Huffington Post if there was even potential for Elsa to be revealed as a member of the LGBTQI community, Lee opted to neither confirm or deny, instead to leaving the decision open.
Lee told Huff Post, ‘I love everything people are saying [and] people are thinking about with our film ― that it’s creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people.
‘It means the world to us that we’re part of these conversations,’ Lee adds. ‘Where we’re going with it, we have tons of conversations about it, and we’re really conscientious about these things. For me…Elsa’s every day telling me where she needs to go, and she’ll continue to tell us.’
‘I always write from character-out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day. We’ll see where we go.’
So far nothing is known about the Frozen sequel other than it’s expected release date on November 27, 2019.
