The Uncle of accused Aussie drug mule Cassie Sainsbury has denied that he employed his niece in a cleaning business which she claims sent her to Colombia on a working holiday.
Speaking with Seven’s Sunday Night, Neil Sainsbury accused the 22-year-old of lying about her story and says “she was aware of what she was doing.”
“I’ve never owned a cleaning business, I’ve never owned any business,” the former military investigator said.
“I think it needs to be made perfectly clear that my niece Cassie has never been employed by me, has never been employed by anybody I know and like I said, I’ve never owned a business whatsoever.”
This comes after Sainsbury allegedly told her fiancé Scott Broadbrige that her uncle had sold the company to Karen and June Dolshot, a “mystery couple” who had continued to employ her in a role that frequently required overseas trips to meet with international clients.
But Sainsbury’s father Stuart has also shut down these bizarre claims, revealing that his daughter and her partner had originally made plans to visit Colombia in January this year.
“I said to her whether she had any idea of what sort of country that was… don’t go,” he said.
“It was simple, that is exactly what I said to her,’ don’t be stupid.’”
“Now I thought with the big blow up I had with Cassie over that, and I saw her after that and she said ‘we’re not going Dad.’”
Defending his fiancée’s innocence, Broadbridge told Sunday Night,” “I don’t know if the business she worked for set her up or it was directly straight for Colombia, but I believe she was, I guess, set up as a drug mule without her knowledge.”
Cassie was arrested on April 12 at Bogota’s El Dorado airport with 5.8 kilograms of cocaine in her luggage.
