According to an engineering expert, the tragic death of four people at Dreamworld last Tuesday will lead the popular Gold Coast theme park into a ‘death spiral’.
Speaking to The Age, associate professor of engineering at UTS, David Eager predicts that the popular tourist destination will struggle to recover following the horrifying events on the Thunder River Rapis’s ride.
‘You lose that reputation and you’re on a death spiral. They’re in the business of bringing fun and enjoyment to millions of people’s lives…and to end up in a situation where you’ve got four deaths, it destroys your business model,’ he said.
Dreamworld will not open until after the funerals Kate Goodchild, Luke Dorsett, Roozi Araghi and Cindy Low – the four adults tragically killed when their raft flipped onto a conveyor belt.
Further weighing in on the matter, Alison Barrett from Queensland law firm Maurice Blackburn said her office had been inundated with calls from people concerned about the park’s operations.
‘People want reassurance; to know that this is not going to happen again and that they can feel safe going to places like Dreamworld,’ she said.
