Whilst American’s wept tears of sorrow over Donald Trump’s U.S Presidential election, this Queensland man was wiping tears of joy!
Matthew Klan staked $27,000 on six bets over five months on the controversial candidate – with the first bet placed before Mr Trump even won the Republican nomination.
‘It was like finding a gem that everyone else was overlooking. The polls and the betting markets were massively underestimating Trump’s chances,’ the former physiotherapist turned full-time investor said of his win.
Mr Klan said he was confident of winning because he saw the anti-establishment feelings in the U.S. electorate and ‘Trump noticed the same trends i did’.
He became even more convinced after Britain voted to leave the European Union, which was also not predicted by pollsters and experts.
The cashed-up investor claims to have predicted the 2008 Global Financial Crisis back in 2002, and said the same markers were there for Trump’s presidential victory.
‘A lot of people were talking about it, I wasn’t the only one by far to notice that, but strangely everyone seemed in denial that anything would happen,’ he said.
