Relatives of a 62-year-old crash victim were left shocked after thieves allegedly stole the dying woman’s wallet and credit cards before going on a three-day spending spree.
Kay Shaylor, an aged-care nurse from Umina Beach, died in a car accident earlier this month. It is alleged that while Silvia Schreuder, 44, held her hand, Jason Hall, 42, stole her wallet.
The couple were reportedly seen just 50 minutes later at a shopping centre, where they are claimed to have begun a three-day shopping spree.
If the allegations are proved true, Gosford Superintendent Danny Sullivan said he agrees with how the pair, who appeared in court yesterday, have been described.
‘I think others have adequately described what they see,’ he said according to the Sydney Morning Herald. ‘They are using words like ‘low-life’ and describing it as one of the lowest crimes they’ve ever seen, and I can do nothing but agree with those words.’
Shaylor’s brother Hilton told The Daily Telegraph: ‘How heartless can you be to do that to someone when they’re dying?
‘I was told the woman was looking after Kay, holding her hand and checking her pulse and telling her she’ll be OK.
‘I just hope Kay was not aware of what (was happening) because it would kill me to think she knew she was being robbed as she was dying.’
Shaylor was driving to work on September 3 when her car was hit by a 20-year-old woman, who was allegedly unlicensed The Telegraph reports she had ‘five bongs’ before driving from Sydney to the Central Coast.
