Police late this afternoon have confirmed the heartbreaking news that four guests have died in an horrific accident at popular Queensland theme park, Dreamworld.
In heartbreaking scenes that have left many holidaymakers deeply distressed, the popular Thunder River Rapids ride reportedly became a death trap when one of the floating cars on the largely water-based ride apparently flipped, killing four of the people riding in it.
‘Police are currently investigating an incident that occurred this afternoon at a theme park on the Gold Coast,’ read an official emergency services statement.
‘Police were called to the site at Coomera around 2.20pm following reports that a number of people had been injured by a conveyor belt.
‘Four adults have been confirmed as being deceased.’
The Courier Mail reports that two people were pinned down during the accident and died of their injuries, while emergency crews attempted to resuscitate at least two of the others, apparently without success.
Our thoughts go out to all of those involved in this unimaginable tragedy.
