It’s one of the biggest parties of the year, however it appears that some people didn’t get the memo.
Channel Eleven’s The Loop invited 11 “winners” to join in counting down to the new year during their telecast on Saturday night, which is already being called ‘the most awkward New Year’s countdown ever’.
The TV station celebrated with music video clips leading up to the countdown to midnight with hosts Olivia (Liv) Phyland and Scott Tweedie, however it didn’t all go as planned.
To their credit, both hosts attempted to get the “winners” excited to bring in the New Year, but they weren’t having any of it.
They let off their party poppers, with one woman even throwing the used device at Phyland before walking off stage.
Fans on The Loops’s Facebook page have been quick to comment on the awkward video, with one woman asking the question “those guests looked like hostages. What did you do to them?”
Another responded with “the old guy look like you roped him in off the street and the rest look like you wrangled them in from accounts receivables or the canteen.”
Others have been quick to claim that it’s an elaborate stunt with no evidence of the so-called competition across The Loop’s website or social media pages.
