22-year-old alleged drug smuggler, Cassie Sainsbury, has been told she can either dob in the drug-smuggling ring she worked for, or spend 30 years in a Colombian prison.
The Adelaide Advertiser has reported that the accused drug mule, nicknamed ‘Cocaine Cassie’, has been offered a way to avoid 30 years prison for attempting to leave the country with 5.8 kilos of cocaine – a charge which she continues to deny.
If she does not turn over information helpful to authorities, she could face up to 30 years behind bars. However, if she dobs in members of the drug-trafficking ring she would be at risk of revenge attacks by members of the cartel.
The almost 6 kilos of the illegal substance was discovered in Cassie’s baggage as she attempted to leave Colombia, bound for the United Kingdom.
The drugs were found inside the cases for 18 sets of headphones – which she claimed were gifts for her bridal party.
She will face court again later this week to defend the allegations.
