A carseat safety test has led to a recall of a popular product after the entire seat was filmed breaking free of its attachments and flying through the air.
The video shows the Recaro Smart Click base with the Recaro Optia car seat come to a sharp stop with a dummy strapped in. When the test vehicle comes to a sudden stop, the entire seat and its passenger fly clean from the base.
One can only imagine the damage that would have been done in a real accident.
The carseat manufacturer has taken the tests very seriously and issued and immediate recall.
In a statement a spokesperson for Recaro said:The safety of its customers is the highest priority for Recaro Child Safety. For this reason, the company has decided to stop delivery of the Recaro Optia seat and to no longer permit its sale.
Other tests on the seat have not had this result, however the company does not deny the seriousness of this test.
