A Brisbane bus driver has died after a passenger allegedly lit him on fire in what has been described as a ‘senseless’ attack.
On Friday morning, a 48-year-old man got on board a bus, allegedly pouring flammable liquid onto driver and setting him on fire.
Thankfully, a nearby taxi driver kicked in the back door rescuing six passengers, including two children.
The front of the bus exploded before the driver escaped, ‘covered in flames, head to toe’.
‘The people were kicking the window and screaming at me to open the door,’ Aguek Nyok told the Brisbane Times.
‘Even when the door opened it kept trying to close on me and it was so, so hot in there,’ he said.
Superintendent Jim Keogh addressed the media saying, ‘Words escape me. It’s a horrific incident.’
‘A bus driver going about doing his business, supporting the community and has taken his life from him in a senseless and needless act’.
