The outback holds a special place for Bridie Carter.
The Aussie actress played a farmer’s daughter, Tess McCleod, on the iconic soap McLeod’s Daughters for five seasons, and she’s always shared a love for the Australian landscape.
Bridie has called for fans to help in the Dollars For Dust campaign, aiming to help Australian farmers as they suffer through a severe drought.
Appearing on The Morning Show, Bridie chatted with hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies on how the public can get involved.
‘The South Australian landscape got into my bones and into my blood,’ the actress tells. ‘I ended up, after season one, buying a property with my husband Michael, and we bought another farm as well.’
The 47-year-old now lives on a farm in the Byron Bay Hinterland, with husband, Michael, and their two kids.
It’s Bridie’s continued love for the bush, inspired by her McLeod’s days, that encouraged her to get involved in Dollars For Dust.
The actress shared that the public can get online and visit the Drought Angels charity website. The organisation is providing support to farmers suffering in the bush.
Earlier this week, Bridie also revealed to New Idea that her family had witnessed first-hand the effects of the current drought.
‘As I drove into our property yesterday, I commented to my husband about how dry our paddocks are at the moment, wondering when we will next get rain,’ she says.
‘I can see that our dams are getting low, our paddocks are looking bare and feed prices are understandably sky-high.’
New Idea has also proudly teamed up with Dollars For Dust campaign.
Five cents from every issue sold this week will be donated to Drought Angels.
