BREAKING: New Zealand primary school in lockdown over fears of shooting

Just weeks after the Christchurch massacre

Armed police in West Auckland are responding to reports of gunfire and negotiating with a man believed to have locked himself in a house, the New Zeland Herald reports.

According to the publication, both a primary school and an early childcare centre in Glen Eden were put into lockdown this morning due to a suspected shooting.

The New Zealand Herald has reported police responded to reports of a shot possibly being fired in the Glen Eden area after 10 am. Police say the Armed Offenders Squad has been deployed to the area as a precaution.

This lockdown has since been lifted.

Police are currently negotiating with an unknown person in the area.

A local resident, Richard Ramage, has told the New Zeland Herald that he believes a suspected armed man has locked himself in a house: “From what I am aware he has locked himself in the house and is refusing to come out.”

More to come as this story develops.
