Disgraced A Current Affair reporter Ben McCormack has been admitted to an “institution” where he is currently undergoing treatment for mental health issues.
According to the Daily Mail, the Channel Nine veteran’s lawyer, Sam Macedone, presented a mental health certificate to a Sydney court on Wednesday, requesting that the star’s strict bail conditions be altered.
Macedone’s application was successful and the 42-year-old has been excused from having to report to Redfern Police Station twice a week while he receives care.
The court also granted a suppression order on the name of the medical institution where McCormack is recovering, in an effort to prevent a “media circus.”
Macedone told the court that revealing the location would “not assist Mr McCormack with his present problems.”
This comes just days after it was confirmed that the senior journalist – who has been charged with using a carrier service for child pornography material – was undergoing “assessment.”
“All I know is he is in hospital for some kind of ailment,” Macedone told 9News after his client failed to report for bail on Monday.
McCormack is set to front court over the charges on May 1.
