Why Ben Cousins was bashed in prison

Troubled former AFL star Ben Cousins has reportedly been attacked in prison, after refusing to participate in a football game between inmates.

On Thursday night it was revealed on the Nine Network’s Footy Show that the 38-year-old Brownlow Medalist had been “set upon” by a group of men inside the Perth jail after he rejected an invitation to join in a scratch match.

The facility where the father-of-two has remained behind bars since March has refused to comment on the report.

The West Coast premiership player is currently serving a one-year prison sentence after repeatedly breaching a violence restraining order and causing his his ex-partner Maylea Tinecheff “ongoing terror.”

He was also fined $2400 over stalking and drug charges.
