A new study from the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Oakland, California has revealed that wi-fi and electronic devices such as cellphones can increase a woman's risk of miscarriage by nearly 50 per cent.
According to the study, the magnetic field (MF), which is also given off by power lines and cell towers, has been found in past studies to put a stress on the body, leading to genetic damage that can result in miscarriage.
The US research, revealed that those exposed to the highest levels of MF radiation are 48 per cent more likely to lose their baby than women exposed to the lowest amounts.
MF radiation, which everyone is exposed to at some extent, has previously been linked to cancer and has been recommended by the World Health Organization to be studied for its effect on pregnancies.
How to reduce risk of exposure to MF:
- Keep cellphone away from abdomen and do not store them in clothes pockets
- Turn wi-fi off when it is not in use, particularly while sleeping
- Talk on speakerphone when making calls and keeping them brief
- Reduce use of appliances that give off MF
