Meghan's last-minute request meant all security vehicles had to be moved, resulting in her detail telegraphing the change, and subsequently exposing the royal to direct access from the public as no cordons had been set up.
The report states: "The VIP [Meghan] explained that her intent was to change the literal optics of the departure, making it appear that she was at least attempting to sneak out of the hotel in photos rather than exiting through the main entrance and giving the potential impression that she was enjoying the media attention."
However, the security complied with her request, and the Duchess of Sussex made her way to dinner at The Polo Bar with close friends Amal Clooney and Serena Williams.
The original plan was for Meghan to have dinner at Flora Bar at the Met - which has a large glass ceiling that makes diners visible to the public.
According to the report, Meghan - who became part of the British royal family after marrying Prince Harry last year - asked to change venue "due to the ability of the paparazzi to potentially photograph her through the skylights."
In an attempt to escape the paparazzi, the security tried to change the route to The Polo Bar, but the document revealed that the plans were leaked and over 20 photographers were already waiting outside.
