Prince Harry’s Reaction
The news—coming 2 months before Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding—caused quite a stir amongst the royal family. Prince Harry reportedly became furious upon hearing about the allegations, and threatened to file a lawsuit against the website for defamation. Soon after, Kensington Palace issued an official statement, saying that the photos were fakes.
Representatives of the Duchess of Sussex and royal family made no further comments on the issue of the authenticity of the photos.
However, celebrity news portal Radar Online doubted the statement made by Kensington Palace. They pointed out that the woman in the pics is wearing the same bracelet that Prince Harry had given Meghan when he came back from a trip to Africa in 2016.
Whether or not the photos truly are of the new Duchess, the whole affair is a serious invasion of privacy and must not be pursued further out of respect for Meghan. Such sensitive photos are not for public consumption.
Some Of Meghan Markle’s Controversial Style Choices
For Meghan Markle, nude photos aren’t the only issue she has had to face as a newly-minted royal. Now that she is part of a family of such fashionable public figures as Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and the late Princess Diana, her personal style is also constantly under fire.
This Carolina Herrera dress (below), worn to Trooping the Colour 2018 with its off-shoulder neckline, was thought by some to be too revealing, although Kate Middleton is also known to have worn similarly-cut dresses in the past.
When she went on her first public outing with Prince Harry, Meghan wore a pair of ripped jeans with her comfy dress shirt. Many thought that her ripped jeans were unfit for a future royal.
She attended a tennis match in Wimbledon in an outfit that paired a hat with her Ralph Lauren ensemble. This is a bit of a faux pas: hats aren’t allowed in the Royal Box, and she had her hat in her hands all throughout the match.
When she attended a wedding wearing this black Club Monaco dress, her neckline slid a bit too low for a moment, giving the paparazzi a small glimpse of her bra. However minor this wardrobe malfunction was, it still caused a bit of controversy amongst Meghan’s more conservative critics.
Other Photos Of Nude Royals
Meghan Markle’s brush with Celeb Jihad isn’t the first time a British Royal got involved in a scandal regarding some sensitive photos.
In 1992, Duchess of York Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson was snapped sunbathing topless in France. The photos also showed American financial analyst John Bryan kissing her feet. She was still legally married to Prince Andrew at the time, but the two had already been living separately for months.
Kate Middleton and Prince William also got embroiled in such a scandal. On their honeymoon, the royal couple was photographed from afar using a camera with a powerful zoom lens. They were pictured sunbathing nude in Viscount Linley’s villa in the South of France. The photos were published in the French magazine Closer. The publication was eventually ordered by the British court to pay William and Kate 100,000 Euros in damages after a lengthy legal battle.
Meghan’s husband Prince Harry has also had nude photos of himself published before. Previously known for his wild lifestyle, the Prince was photographed in 2012 playing strip billiards in Las Vegas.
Conclusion
Despite their fame and stature, the Royals are still human after all. Like us, they are prone to fashion missteps, occasionally make embarrassing mistakes, and are in constant danger of having their privacy breached in this digital age.
We wish Meghan and the royal family a happy life, and hope that their privacy doesn’t get violated like this again.
