Speaking to Today, Mr Townsend said: "I think that’s more likely that there’s tension there.
"There was this suggestion that William had had a word with Harry before the wedding to Meghan, saying he didn’t think Meghan was really Princess material. Apparently, that really upset Harry.
"There are stories that have emerged recently about a rift going back many, many years where Harry would behave badly. There was a time when Harry was cautioned by the Police for underage drinking and smoking, and he thought that he was getting all the blame for that whereas William’s behaviour was just as bad.
"William was getting away with it. There are these historic rifts and then there are a few tensions around the whole Harry and Meghan thing."
