Meghan Markle has been dragged into an ugly drug scandal by her father, the National Enquirer has reported.
A month long investigation in Mexico by the US publication has claimed to have learnt that Thomas Markle Sr. has 'bankrolled' Meghan's 'secret' sister - an alleged drug user who vanished after asking him for $6,000.
Insiders have told the publication that the Duchess of Sussex's embattled father doted on Meghan's secret sister and treated her as his own.
According to the National Enquirer's report, Thomas' friend, who he sees as a daughter, vanished after he lent her the $6,000.
'The last time Thomas saw her was when he handed her the money,' a source tells.
This is not the first time Meghan Markle’s estranged father has caused controversy.
In an interview last month, Markle Sr. took the opportunity to slam Prince Harry's late mother, Princess Diana.
'They have Meghan treating her father in a way that Harry’s mother Princess Diana would have loathed,' the 74-year-old said in an explosive interview with the Mail on Sunday. 'That’s not what Diana stood for,'he added.
The comments refer to Markle’s claims that his daughter has cut all ties with him following her wedding to Prince Harry on May 19.
'Princess Diana is credited with changing the Royal Family, but she wasn't perfect,' Markle continued. 'She was still very much one of them. I think Meghan's the one who'll bring them into the 21st Century, if they'll let her.'
In the scathing interview - which went on for 9 hours – he also blasted Meghan’s 'sense of superiority' and took credit for Meghan’s successes and expressed fears for his health.
'She'd be nothing without me,' he said. 'I made her the Duchess she is today. Everything that Meghan is, I made her.
'She became the woman that she is today thanks to everything I did for her. And did I get any recognition for it? Any thanks? She doesn't even speak to me now. How cold is that?'
The royal family is yet to respond to the National Enquirer's report.
