Former Masterchef: The Professionals contestant Matt Campbell has passed away after collapsing during the London Marathon on Sunday, authorities confirm.
The 29-year-old chef, who had previously competed on the cooking show in 2017, collapsed, according to an official statement released by the London Marathon. He was subsequently taken to the hospital where he later passed away.
The statement read: 'Matt was a well-known chef who featured in Masterchef: The Professionals last year, inspiring viewers with his Nutritional Gastronomy movement and forward-thinking ideas. He was running for The Brathay Trust and in memory of his father, Martin, who died in the summer of 2016.'
Campbell was active on social media leading up to the race, posting a picture of his running gear and announcing that it was his second marathon in two weeks, having previously ran in the Manchester Marathon on April 8.
