Mary Tyler Moore’s close friend Dorothy Sepe has revealed secrets of the actress’ tragic last weeks alive.
In an interview with Radar, the former chef - who cooked for Moore and her husband Robert Lavigne for 14 years before her death - confessed that her friend’s final days saw her battling host of serious medical issues.
“Her eyesight was going,” said 87-year-old Sepe.
“She had bad feet. Her body failed on her.”
“And then the diabetes finally got her – she’d become a vegetarian – almost vegan for her heath, but the diabetes was her downfall.”
Sepe suggested that the iconic Dick Van Dyke Show actress had never fully recovered from her grief after her 24-year-old son Richard Meeker accidently shot himself in the head with a gun in 1980.
“She never got over the death of Richie. It broke her heart,” she said.
The star also suffered from Alzheimers, as well as heart and kidney issues. She passed away in Connecticut on January 25 at the age of 80.
“She was suffering a lot towards the end,” Sepe added. “It wasn’t Mary anymore.”
“I would say this is a relief.”
