Update: Maria Venuti stalker hell
Australian actress and entertainer Maria Venuti is in a critical condition after suffering a stroke over the weekend.
It’s believed the 75-year-old suffered a stroke after her stalker terrorised her, News.com.au reports.
The 38-year-old male stalker, who is under the impression he’s Venuti’s husband, is undergoing psychiatric treatment.
According to the news website, the performer's friends had been 'concerned about the stocky male stalker for more than a month'.
Police confirmed that a man had been taken into custody in a previous incident at the Gladesville address on September 30.
A NSW police spokeswoman said: “We fully understand the significant distressed caused by the man’s behaviour. The response of officers is considered reasonable given the circumstances. The condition of the victim is of great concern to New South Wales police.”
On Sunday, Venuti showed signs of movement in her arms and eyes while being treated at Royal North Shore hospital.
Venuti’s daughter Biance said: 'Mum remains in a critical, but stable condition in hospital following a major stroke,
'The first 48 hours were critical and now the focus is on the next three days, which are very important in her recovery.
'She has wonderful people taking care of her at Royal North Shore Hospital to whom I extend my deepest gratitude.
'On behalf of mum and our family and friends, I would like to thank everyone for their love and prayers.
'They are very much appreciated, and please keep them coming – it is going to be a long journey back to health.'
