WATCH: Love Island’s Tayla and Dom announce split in emotional video confessional

The reality TV couple parade their breakup for fans - by Matthew Denby

We all saw it coming, and now Love Island Australia couple Tayla Damir and Dom Thomas have confirmed they are no more.

In typical reality TV star style, the duo made a meal of the announcement on social media, posting a video entitled Answering Your Question: Have We Broken Up? while at the same time asking that 'everyone respect our privacy'.

Blaming their breakup on the pressures of taking 'different paths and directions' Tayla and Dom said they had taken time to 'work out where they were at' before deciding on the inevitable.

‘We didn't really know in our heads where we were at ourselves,' Dom explained, describing recent weeks as a ‘difficult time’.

'Obviously we thought it was time to let you know that me and Tayla are no longer together.'

With his seemingly puffy face suggesting to some that tears may have been shed, it seems that some things just can't be scripted.

For her part, Tayla claimed there was no secret crisis or turmoil behind the split, although we’re wondering if at least some drama will be drip fed across monetised social platforms for months to come.

'There is no story behind it, there's no drama,’ she insisted.

'We're just [going in] in different paths and directions in our lives and we hope everyone can respect our privacy and respect that we're still fine and still mates.'

The ex-couple have been the subject of rumours for weeks, after Tayla enjoyed a break without Dom in Queensland. Their usually busy Instagram feeds have been devoid of couple shots for some time.

Tayla famously won Love Island Australia with Grant Crapp, but the pair split weeks later. They were consoled by $50,000 in prize money.
