Thursday night's episode of Love Island Australia saw resident DJ John James shockingly exit the villa, without warning and without telling the female contestants.
The 32-year-old had been considering his options when none of the girls in the villa reciprocated his feelings, but the final decision was made when new boy Jaxon entered the villa.
James swiftly gathered the boys in the bedroom so he could say his goodbyes, but he made it clear he didn't want the girls to know until he was well and truly gone.
Speaking to TheFix, John revealed: 'I left the villa because I wasn’t really making any connections with the girls that were inside the house at the time.
'So I did wait to see who they were bringing in before the recoupling next week and then another guy entered on the day when I was at the beach, so I came home from the beach and saw another guy came in, as opposed to another girl.
'So i just decided that the recoupling was going to come and my name was on the chopping block so rather than delay the inevitable I thought I’d stay true to myself and wrap it up.
'I guess if they had brought in another girl, I would have waited to see what the outcome was there. I went in there to find a girl, not to chill out in Spain for six weeks.'
When asked if he had any regrets, James said: 'Definitely not.'
