DeLeon, a singer-songwriter and frontman for the band The Cab, got down on one knee and proposed while under the Northern Lights of Finland. The pair has been dating for five years and Skriver, 25, had no hesitation in saying yes, as she revealed on her Instagram account, a post which immediately went viral racking up 635K likes within hours.

“When he got down on one knee and asked me to be his forever … I have never been more sure about anything in my life,” shared Skriver.

“You are my biggest adventure. My fairytale come true. My soulmate. My best friend. The love of my life. So of course it was 1millionxYES!!!”

The post is utterly adorable. And the pics too. Especially that ring. Which is nothing less than spectacular.

One teeny, tiny thing we couldn’t help but notice however … Skriver’s fingernails weren’t in the best of shape. Fair’s fair – she was on an icy tundra in the depths of Finland at the time and the proposal was a surprise so a manicure was likely the last thing on her mind. But if you suspect the love of your life is about to ask for your hand in marriage, or, if you just want your hands to look heavenly in any pics that may appear, here’s a couple of quick tips.

Never ever cut the cuticle. The cuticle is the nail’s natural protective seal. Instead of cutting it, gently push it back with a wash cloth after a warm shower or bath and follow with your favourite cuticle moisturiser, says Manhattan nail guru Dr Dana Stern.

Next, always wash dishes with gloves. Or, better still, don’t wash them at all! But if that’s not an option gloves it is. Same, same for gardening.

Always protect the nails with a coat of polish that is good for the nails, i.e. a product that contains ingredients that wont compromise the health of the nail (so at a minimum 5-free) and will allow the nail to breathe. This doesn’t always have to be colour, even a natural clear top or base coat, says Tracey Winder, trainer at Mavala.

And if you’re not sure of a shade – try nude, says celebrity manicurist Jocelyn Petroni.

“Similar to a nude lip, neutral nude nail polish has the ability work with any outfit, for every occasion,” she says.
