All surgeries come with the risk that you may not come out of it. My previous surgeries were minor ones so I never really doubted that I’d easily come out the other side. But this is one hell of a surgery.
My partner asked me to write a letter to the little dude in case the worst should happen. I wrote one for her too. It wasn’t easy.
How do I tell a four year old that I’m sorry I can’t be there but that I’ll love them always? How do I tell him that we’ll always be a family despite the hole I leave behind?
How do I make sure my girlfriend knows how truly life changing she has been? That laughing with her and engaging in our silly banter is what makes our relationship fun? Somehow, words don’t seem enough.
Both letters are sitting idly in my bedside table. Hopefully they won’t be needed but if they are, I hope I’ve said the right thing.
I hope the little dude knows that he is the most remarkable and funny little boy I’ve ever known. And I hope my partner knows she is the bees knees!
