A cat named Samson has hit celebrity status after it was named ‘New York city’s largest cat’.
Also known as Catstradamus, the four-year-old purebred Maine coon weights a whopping 28 pounds (13 kilos) and has garnered a massive Instagram following.
‘He’s the [largest] cat in the city, and I welcome any challengers to step up,’ says Samson’s owner, Jonathan Zurbel, 42, told the New York Post.
Not your ordinary cat, Zurbel says Samson is ‘much like a dog’, however, he doesn’t enjoy being walked on a leash. Instead, Zurbel pushes him around in a pet pram.
‘He gets a lot of attention from strangers,’ says Zurbel.
Despite his size, Samson isn’t fat.
In response to a news reports calling Samson fat, his owner wrote on Instagram: ‘@gooddayny please stop cat shaming me, I am not fat or overweight at all!! #RealCatsHaveCurves.’
His groomer, Carolyn Ayala said, ‘He is genuinely long, broad, heavy and strong. He’s big and well-proportioned. He’s a real big Maine coon.’
‘I have groomed many obese cats but [he’s] not the same . . . He is the Fabio of cats. He’s a gentle giant.’
