Three days into their marriage, Married at First Sight’s Michael revealed to his TV wife Bella that he has a six-year-old son who lives with his mum in New Zealand. And the shellshocked look on her face spoke volumes to many viewers.
After a brief moment of silence, Bella blurted: ‘Like, you’re a father… That’s crazy. That’s pretty big…’
Composing herself, she later added: ‘I think it’s awesome. It doesn’t change how I feel about you at all. I wanna meet him.’
Michael still had some explaining do, saying he waited to tell Bella in the hopes that she would feel connected enough to him to accept him for who is he, including his son.
But despite what Bella said in front of the cameras, the radio announcer admitted to The Fix that kids have never featured in her life plans, and that’s unlikely to change.
‘I hadn’t really thought about it. I’d never encountered it before,’ Bella said. ‘Coz I don’t want kids, it’s not really ever been in my plan. I don’t know how I’m going to feel in five or 10 years’ time, but definitely it’s [all] been about my career.’
She added: ‘Like, why do women have to have kids? Why can’t we just have a life that’s full of you a’d your husband, holidays and sex and all the awesome things that come with a relationship?
‘Even all my girlfriends are like, “One day you’ll want them”. And I’m like, “No, for my whole life I have never wanted them.”
Now 31, Bella says she still can’t see a future for herself that involves kids.
‘Like, why do we have to reproduce children like that’s the only thing we’re put on this earth to do? There’s other things to do, and there’s plenty of children out there who don’t have homes, and it’s very bad.’
