A Halloween costume of Holocaust victim Anne Frank has sparked outrage, prompting several retailers to stop selling this item.
Originally appearing on the website Halloweencostumes.com.au, the insensitive children’s costume is made up a green beret, a blue coat and a brown satchel with a name tag on it, the same kind evacuee children wore during World War II, reports The Sun.

The same costume is available to buy in Australia, where it is retailing for $28.95 on the website Smiffys Australia Costumes, and is described as a ‘World War II Evacuee Girl Costume.’
Horrified Twitter users have shared their fury and disgust at such a costume being available.

There r better ways 2 commemorate Anne Frank. This is not one. We should not trivialize her memory as a costume.

Ross Walker, a PR representative for HalloweenCostumes, said: ‘We sell costumes not only for Halloween, but for many uses outside of the Halloween season, such as school projects and plays.’
The company has also issued a statement apologising for any offence the costume has caused.
The statement reads, ‘We would like to apologise for any offense this has caused. Due to the feedback from our customers and the public, which we take very seriously, we have elected to stop selling this costume immediately. Again, we apologise for this mistake in judgement.’
