Iconic supermodel Christie Brinkley looks decades younger than 63 – with glossy blonde tresses, glowing skin and a svelte figure to die for.
The ageless beauty claims being a lifelong vegetarian is the main reason she’s managed to stay in such fabulous shape, while she also works hard at being an active mum-of-three, getting involved in everything from yoga to kayaking.
New Idea sat down with Christie at Alo Yoga Store in Los Angeles, where she was supporting the campaign launch of Beverly Hills: City of WELLTH, as she spilled her diet secrets – and revealed she’s not given up hope on finding love again!
“I truly think my vegetarian diet plays a huge role [in looking younger],” she tells us. “I raised all three of my kids as vegetarians, and I’ve been vegan from time to time. Except when I’m in Italy, and along comes the mozzarella!”
Christie reveals the word “diet” is a dirty word in her household.
“We have to stop thinking of healthy eating as a diet, which I call ‘denying’,” she says. “It’s like denying yourself something you should be having. Instead… you need to be like, ‘I have the opportunity to gift myself. I could eat something that’s going to fuel my body and make me feel great, or I could go ahead and choose the ice cream.”
It’s this same logical attitude to health that’s gotten Christie through some of the most traumatic times in her life, including highly publicized splits from four ex-husbands, including Billy Joel and Peter Cook.
“I’ve had a few tough times in my life. The tendency is to pull the covers up and stay in bed, but you can’t do that. For me, to get out in nature and go for a run, that’s my salvation,” says Christie, who is now rumoured to be in a relationship with music producer David Foster. “You have to keep moving. I call it greasing the joints at this age, because you rust if you don’t keep moving. You can never get tired of yoga, but I also like to do hiking, biking, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, and skiing.”
