She’s used to stepping on an Olympic podium to accept a gold medal, but that all seems like a different world now for Australian aerial skier Alisa Camplin-Warner.
Holding baby Felix, who entered the world at 7.25am on July 20, the superstar athlete gazes down at the tiny newborn, allowing her contentment to wash over her.
He really takes our breath away, he’s so beautiful, vulnerable and every bit a part of us,’ the proud mum tells New Idea.
But while the arrival of a newborn marks the start of sleepless nights and tireless nappy changes for most, Alisa and her husband Oliver are simply thanking the stars for their precious little miracle, who was diagnosed with congenital heart disease (CHD) after health issues were detected at 22 weeks.
‘We’re so grateful he is healthy… His heart is almost perfect,’ she smiles. ‘We had a lot of scans throughout the pregnancy with cardiologists scrutinising his heart, so we were always worried and never fully able to enjoy it.’
