Seven years after they started dating, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have reportedly wed, with the actor bucking tradition by changing his surname to Cyrus!
Following reports the couple wed over the holiday break, in a “very psychedelic and hippie-esque” ceremony with only about 10 of their closest friends and family present, New Idea can confirm Liam recently booked a plane ticket in the name of ‘Liam Cyrus’. It is believed the apparent change is at the request of his unconventional bride, who describes herself as 'pansexual'.
While the couple’s wedding plans chopped and changed over the course of their engagement, there is one detail bride Miley, 23, remained steadfast on – that it was an intimate affair.
‘Miley is pretty adamant about having a small, private ceremony,’ a source told Us Weekly. ‘But Liam wants a really big wedding, so I’m sure they’ll come to a compromise.’
Adds a separate source to Life & Style: “Liam and Miley really love each other and have talked about tying the knot for so long, they decided to just go for it."
The couple – who met in 2009, broke up in 2013 and got back together last winter – had a pal who is also an ordained minister officiate the nuptials.
“They wrote the vows themselves,” the source tells Life & Style. “There were touching words about how they were each other’s soul mates.”
And while the couple have achieved their fairytale ending, their romance hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Falling in love in 2009 on the set of The Last Song, after a brief break-up their whirlwind romance was cemented with a 3.5-carat Neil Lane engagement ring in 2012, with the singer looking ‘forward to a life of happiness with Liam’.
A public break-up ensued in 2013 following a spate of erratic behaviour from Miley, with the duo shocking everyone when they reunited this year.
‘Of course it was hard, man,’ Liam, 26, recalled of the split. ‘At the time, we were going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen. We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time.’
Now, it appears love has conquered all for the newlyweds.
‘When I feel something, I just feel it and I go for it,’ Liam says. ‘I make my decisions about what is going to make me happy.’
