But one day, as she went to take visitors through the emergency procedure, Kate was taken aback to find her life vest stuffed with condoms.
According to Cal Tomlinson, a former colleague who spoke to royal biographer Katie Nicholl about the incident, the contraceptives fell on the floor in front of guests, much to Kate's dismay.
Her co-worker admitted she had been "very embarrassed" by the prank and said she "took it more seriously than the others might have".
"She was angry at first but she settled down, and I don't remember her ever getting them back," Mr Tomlinson told the author.
She's certainly come a long way since her pre-royal days.

Kate went on to meet Prince William at Scotland's prestigious University of St Andrews in 2001.
