The boat originally made headlines when the British public were asked to name the ship using an online poll, with Boaty McBoatface the 'winning' suggestion.
The research ship was eventually named after British broadcaster and natural historian Sir David Attenborough, with Boaty McBoatface used as the name of a small submarine kept on board.
Kate kept off the autumn chill in one of her favourite coats - a pale blue style by Alexander McQueen.
She finished the look with an Asprey clutch, navy heels, and diamond earrings.
"It gives me great pleasure to name this ship Sir David Attenborough, and may God bless her and all those who sail in her," Kate said as she named the boat.
Sir David was also present at the ceremony, and was pictured laughing and joking with Kate and her William as they toured the ship and met its crew.
