With Meghan recently completing her first royal tour with Prince Harry to countries such as Australia and New Zealand, Kate has joined husband William to visit Canada and India amongst many other places. However, there is one thing the duchesses do when travelling that their husbands mother Princess Diana rarely did.
When making public appearances, Meghan and Kate choose to wear items of clothing made by designers native to the country they are visiting. The two women do this presumably as a nod towards the culture of the country.
Kate Middleton chose to wear a grey coat by the Toronto designer Bojana Sentaler when she visited Canada on a 2016 tour. After wearing the coat, the item quickly sold out as royal fans were eager to recreate her look.
Meanwhile, Meghan frequently wore items by Kiwi and Australian designers during her first official royal tour earlier this year.
Whilst visiting New Zealand in particular, Meghan opted to wear dresses and jewellery by Jessica McCormack and Karen Walker.
Although Princess Diana often chose to wear her personal favourite items of clothing rather than clothing made by local designers of the country she was visiting, she still respected the local culture in other ways.
During a visit to Japan, the princess wore a red and white polka dot dress in a nod towards the country flag.
During a trip to Pakistan, Diana also chose to wear green which is a colour of respect.
