Kate Middleton is reportedly having a hypnobirth

Here’s what that means. - by Lucy Bode
  • 15 Dec 2017

Let’s be real; all pregnant women hope their labour will be as pleasant (read: pain-free) as possible. And for many, this will mean going down the gas, air or epidural route. But when it comes to the Kate Middleton; childbirth is simply a case of mind over matter.

Back in 2013, it was widely reported that the Royal delivered Prince George via ‘hypnobirth’ – a mindfulness practice that helps to alleviate any stress or discomfort.

According to the HypnoBirthing International website, expectant mothers can use 'The Mongan Method' to tap into their subconscious and rely on their instincts to achieve relaxation, "free of the resistance that fear creates." This also promotes the release of endorphins, which can be essential if the birthing plan takes an unexpected turn. The result? A serene, calm and ultimately, positive experience.

But the mum-of-two isn’t the only high-profile celebrity to jump on the natural birth bandwagon. Jessica Alba is an outspoken fan of hypnobirthing, as is Miranda Kerr and Gisele Bundchen. In fact, the supermodel previously revealed that she credits the technique with the drug-free delivery of her son, Benjamin.

“It wasn’t painful, not even a little bit,” she told Brazilian TV show, Fantastisco. “I wanted to be conscious and present for what was happening. I didn’t want to be anaesthetised. I wanted to feel.”

“The whole time, my head was so focused – every contraction, the baby is closer, the baby is closer,” She continued: “So, it wasn’t like, ‘Oh what pain.’ It was, ‘With every contraction, he is getting closer to me.’”

And yup, it has to be said that Kensington Palace hasn’t revealed whether or not the Duchess will be hypnobirthing her way to motherhood for the third time. But considering she previously reflected on the moment she welcomed Prince George to the world as "perfect," we can only assume.
