The Daily Telegraph reports that Karl will join the radio show alongside five others including Deborah Knight, Erin Molan, Phil Gould, Rita Panahi and Mieke Buchan.
“They are obviously using some high profile media names in an attempt to make Chris Smith listeners remain listening,” an insider revealed.
“They want to make that 12pm-3pm weekday time slot newsier and want to lure younger listeners and these contributors will do that.”
The new gig comes after the Channel 9 star recently opened up about his struggles since his shock departure from the Nine breakfast show.
“I think I was struggling towards the end of last year. It wasn’t a great surprise to me – in fact, it was a relief in many ways that I was taken off the Today show, because I just wasn’t at my best,” he confessed at a Channel Nine post-Logies brunch.
"And you can’t be doing that show unless you are at the top of your game”,
Karl received a great deal of negative attention following his split from ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn and just as he married shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough in Mexico late last year, the embattled anchor was axed from the Today Show.
“I don’t believe for a second I was at my best,” Karl added.
