Karl Stefanovic’s ex has given her first television interview to Channel 7’s The Morning Show.
Speaking to hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies, Cassandra Thorburn opened up about the pain of divorce.
Cass – whose former husband Karl is preparing to marry Jasmine Yarbrough in Mexico - was appearing on the show to spruik her new children’s book Leo Lion's BIG Bed!
A teacher and television producer in her own right, Cass described the book’s completion as a ‘journey’.
‘I wanted to do something with our newfound time. The kids are at school more and I wanted to do something that I was interested in doing,’ Cass told the hosts.
‘A children's writing course was the beginning and that flowed into actually becoming and thinking, we can do something here.’
The book is about transitioning into a bigger bed as a child.
‘It was a story about how you might be able to assist your child. We set up the big bed for them, we think it is beautiful, but sometimes it can be daunting for them,’ Cass explained.
While Cass said writing the book was a lot harder than she anticipated, she enjoyed the experience. The profits are going to Relationships Australia to help children caught in separation between parents.
‘I thought it was a perfect thing for us to put all profits there because it's important to me. It's part of what me and my children have been through which led me to writing this book,’ Cass explained.
‘[Divorce] is particularly challenging for the children, especially when it was so public. Now, I got to write a children's book and I'm stepping out to say that I feel comfortable within myself and I'm telling others to be comfortable in their own skin.
‘Pursue what you want to, regardless of what is going on in the sideline.’
‘What I have gone through has given me a reason to publish this as a book so that the profits could assist other families.’
Cass concluded the interview by saying that more books may be in the pipeline but she doesn’t focus too far ahead.
‘I don't feel the need to look that far ahead. I want to focus on my children and make sure that we are all happy and well, and looking that far ahead is not something that I am wanting to do right now,’ she said.
