After facing a wave of criticism over his messy divorce from his wife of 21 years and his controversial new romance with a much-younger model, the TV host was recently back in the headlines over his role in Lisa Wilkinson’s shock walkout on Today after a salary war over Karl’s inflated pay packet.
Now things could go from bad to worse for the 43-year-old TV star amid claims that he may be battling skin cancer.
It’s been revealed that Karl underwent a biopsy last week to determine whether a suspected and possibly deadly sunspot on his left arm is a malignant melanoma.
Experts say malignant melanoma is a highly aggressive cancer that can be easily spread to other parts of the body – these cancers can be fatal if not found and treated early.
New Idea has been told that a ‘distressed’ Karl is likely to receive his biopsy results within the next seven days and from there treatment will be discussed. But the grim reality is this – Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with more than 2000 people dying each year from the disease in our country.
It’s no surprise that the cancer shock has rocked Karl, with a well-placed source inside the TV presenter’s camp telling New Idea that it is a difficult time for the star.
‘Skin cancer is nasty, especially if it spreads. Right now, we do not know what we are dealing with and for Karl, that’s extremely worrying.’
Karl’s health shock comes just two months after he spoke to close friend and confidante Olivia Newton John about her second battle with cancer, which was diagnosed in May.
