The German born fashion designer began his career with Chanel in 1983.
Lagerfeld died on February 19, French magazine Closer reports.
Lagerfeld was known for his iconic dark sunglasses, grey ponytail and monochrome outfits.
While the cause of death is yet to be confirmed, according to the Mirror sources close to the fashion legend have revealed he was rushed to hospital amid a secret battle with pancreatic cancer.
A source told the Mirror: "He hadn’t gone on about his illness, but battled it very bravely,
"Karl was very proud of his fitness and healthy living, so the pancreatic cancer came as a huge shock."
According to sources, Karl has not been doing well since 2017 when rumours first began circulating of his ill-health.
“You can feel the winding down in-house,” the source told Town & Country. “It definitely feels like an era is coming to an end.”
Chanel has confirmed that their couturier Karl Lagerfeld passed away early Tuesday, February 19.
