American woman Kala Brown was kept for two months caged like a dog inside of a shipping container, with no access to sunlight and fed once per day, when the police rescued her.
Her captor and accused serial killer, Todd Kohlhepp, 45, has since admitted to keeping her chained inside what the police describe as a 'shark diving cage'. He has also since confessed to committing seven other murders.
Brown, 30, was forced to watch her boyfriend, Charlie Carver be shot dead as she lay helplessly chained up by the neck and feet with Kohlhepp - the property owner and a local real estate agent - threatening the same for her if she tried to escape.
In a recent interview, Kohlhepp's mother Regina Tague shockingly insists her son is not a monster as she seemingly attempted to justify his actions on US investigative crime show, 48 Hours.
"He’s not even close to it," she said. "He wasn’t doing it for enjoyment. He was doing it because he was mad and he was hurt."
When asked why her son shot Brown's boyfriend, she explained his actions, saying, "Because he got nasty and smart-mouthed."
And as for why he chained her up, Tague relayed, "Because he didn't know what else to do at that point... He didn't know what to do with her; he couldn't turn her loose, she'd go get the police."
