The couple confirmed their happy news on Saturday with Laura saying she was 15 weeks pregnant.
'I couldn't think of a better way to end the year,' Matty, 31, told the Daily Telegraph.
The news is not without it's bittersweet moment as Laura also revealed she had suffered a miscarriage back in June.
'We'd heard so many stories about how it had been so difficult for some people, and obviously we thought it was going to be difficult for me because of what had already happened,' Laura, 32, revealed.
'When you've had a miscarriage, you worry if there is something wrong with you,' she added.
The couple's first baby is due June 2019 and are still undecided on whether they will find out the baby's gender.
Prior to the announcement, Matty J hinted that the couple could be pregnant as he discussed baby names on his radio show on Nova 96.9.
'I wanna call my child something crazy like Moon, or Phoenix, or River,' he revealed to co-hosts Sarah McGilvray and Matt de Groot.
He later explained because he and his siblings - Tom, David, Matt, Adam and Kate - have 'quite boring' names, he wanted something unique for his child.
