Once upon a time, Princess Diana’s now famous engagement ring was viewed as the “commoners ring”.
The ring - which now belongs to Prince William’s wife Kate Middleton - was viewed that way because the People’s Princess picked the ring from a catalogue.

The uproar comes down to the fact that it was relatively unheard of that a royal would choose a ring that was “accessible to the public”.
The A$50,000 ring was inherited by Prince Harry who then passed it on to brother William, who proposed to Kate in Kenya.
