The parents to one-year-old Casper were shocked when judge Laurence Llewelyn Bowen awarded them a 10 for their final renovation.
“It is completely numbing,” Pete, 32, said.
“It has been a rough ride and an amazing ride.”
Pete and Courtney received an astounding score of 29/30 from the judges while Melbourne brothers Tim and Mat received 27 and Adelaide couple Lisa and Andy received 26.
Now they’re $250,000 richer, the duo reveals exclusively to New Idea they are now considering having a second child.
“I think having been away from Casper this long, we just want to soak him up and love every minute of him and then we will eventually get on with the rest of our lives,” Pete says.
“Being on House Rules gave us the gift of time to spend with Casper and our family because we don’t have to renovate our house anymore. Taking home the $250,000 is only strengthening that and I just don’t think we quite realise how amazing that prize money will be. It’s massive but we’ve still digesting it and it’s so surreal and I don’t know if we’ll know how amazing that is for a while”
As for how they’re planning to spend the prize money, Pete and Courtney say they’ve got a few ideas!
“There are a few very special family members and people that made our House Rules journey possible so I guess something lovely and nice for them would probably be our starting point,” Courtney says.
“He was with my parents for a few months and then he went to my sister’s after that. They’re got a very special connection. It’s really lovely, the way he looks at them now. It’s really beautiful that they’ve been able to spend all that time together.”
