West Australian pro surfers Mikaela and Eliza had more to lose while on House Rules than any other team. Relying on their bodies for their careers, the sisters say they made a real effort to maintain their fitness while competing on the show, despite the long days on site.

“I honestly feel like we did stay relatively fit,” Mikaela, 24, says. “Obviously, not as fit as when we compete, but I needed to go to the gym. At the beginning, I was really psyched to be like, ‘Yes, I’m going to do the gym every single day’ and then reality hit and I was like, ‘OK, maybe once a week’.”
Eliza, 22, admits that she struggled more than her older sister when it came to diet while filming. “I swear I’ve turned into a tradie,” she says. “I feel like a proper tradie eating a pie at 10 in the morning. I’m not even kidding.

“You’re just so hungry because you’re just so stressed, so you’re just like, ‘Feed me!’
“We just tried to stay as fit as we possibly could, but with the demands of filming and renovating and everything, you’re just exhausted. By the time you get home you just want to have a shower and crawl into bed and turn your light off.”
