Dave & Mel
At the end of their tether, Gold Coast couple Dave and Mel are desperate to win House Rules in a bid to save their family. Mel, 34, entered them into the competition in an attempt to bring Dave home from his fly-in-fly-out job, which sees him away from home half the year. A self-confessed control freak, Mel also says it was her idea to buy the home they share with their two sons, Westin, five, and Billy, three.
‘We bought this house without an inspection,’ she says.
Leigh & Kristie
Married surfers Kristie and Leigh are sure to make waves in the competition.
‘We’re competitive, very competitive,’ Kristie, 36, admits.
The couple, who wed in 2009, own a beach shack on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and live in their partially renovated home with their two children.
‘Where we live is our dream location,’ Kristie says. ‘But our house is definitely not our dream.’
Toad & Mandy
Bega dairy farmer Toad and beautician Mandy are no strangers to stress!
The engaged NSW couple are the parents of 18-month-old twins, Lenny and Layla, and live in a 150-year-old rundown inn.
‘We’ve got a really big old house that needs to be fixed,’ Mandy, 28, says.
According to Toad, 32: ‘We’re open to the elements. The winds blow in from the west, the doors rattle. One time, it blew the screen right out and smashed the glass!’
Chiara & David
Perth couple Chiara and David are set to be this season’s most talked about contestants.
Expect to see plenty of fireworks from the married pair, who wed in 2011.
‘We were told by a counsellor we’re explosive at times,’ says Chiara, who works at home as a hairdresser.
‘We fight hard, but love big.’
The outspoken pair, who have three children, defied all odds to buy their first home in 2013, hauling themselves out of tens of thousands of debt.
Jared & Jess
This Adelaide couple are more than just pretty faces!
After dating for more than two years, former AFL player Jared, 28, and teacher Jess, 25, have decided to move in together.
But, Jared’s bachelor pad is going to need some serious renovation!
‘It’s absolutely gross. The sink tends to fill up, which is a nightmare,’ Jess says.
Jared adds: ‘You can’t have your beautiful girlfriend plunging your basin all the time!’
Josh & Brandon
Meet the laid-back country Queensland brothers, Josh and Brandon. Both tradies, when they’re not wakeboarding, restoring old cars, singing country music, or speedway racing, the cheeky chippies are working hard on building sites.
From Maryborough, Queensland, Josh, 23, and Brandon, 21, were only teenagers when they scraped together enough money for a deposit on an old fixer-upper!
Kim & Michelle
Introducing the first-ever mother and daughter team to compete in House Rules!
Mum Kim, 59, and her daughter Michelle, 27, are crammed into a tiny three bedroom house with five other people in Tweed Heads.
‘Living in this house is my mum, myself, my two daughters, my sister Melissa, her son Cory and my dad,’ Michelle spills.
The northern NSW property was once owned by Kim’s husband’s family, and they are keen to see it handed down.
