Sometimes you see one and then before you know it that number starts multiplying rapidly. Get to it before the problem is out of control with a couple of simple home-made cockroach deterrents. A bunch of dried bay leaves left in the back of a cupboard are reputed to be effective in keeping cockroaches away. A spray bottle with a mix of water and an essential oil such as citronella, peppermint or tea tree oil can be sprayed around the affected area and should deter cockroaches from returning.
