David Oldfield and Pettifleur Berenger clashed from the second they laid eyes on each other on Sunday night’s episode of the new Channel Seven series.
However, their fellow contestants have questioned if the duo’s fire is more a romantic spark than burning anger.
‘She and David clash so much, but after a while, we were just like: ‘Are they into each other?’ former Home And Away star Lincoln Lewis tells New Idea.
‘There’s going to be a moment where they’re just like: “I hate you”, “I hate you more” and then just start kissing!’
Even acid-tongued host Marco Pierre White picked up on the confusing chemistry between David, who is the husband of The Real Housewives Of Sydney star Lisa Oldfield, and mother-of-three Pettifleur.
‘You look like a lovely couple,’ he joked to the pair.
David, 59, then turned to the former Real Housewives Of Melbourne star and said: ‘Everyone can see the chemistry.’
‘Please, I’d pull my bloody head off if I was with you,’ Pettifleur, 52, snapped back.
However, despite their bewildering interactions, both reality stars tell New Idea they are already in happy relationships and their fights were just a side-product of the pressure of the show.
‘We had some crazy-ass fights,’ Pettifleur, whose partner is businessman Frank Palazzo, admits.
David concurs, adding: ‘There were certainly a number of times I cracked. Pettifleur sees herself as something of a button pusher, a provocateur. A general pest.
‘I didn’t mind Pettifleur. I’d be happy to have a drink with her some time. I just found her a bit annoying.’
