While it’s usually reality TV shows that reel in huge audiences, it appears as though Hamish and Andy's True Story has surpassed a number of shows in the genre.
Many viewers are choosing to watch the comedy show on Monday nights over lifestyle reality shows on other networks, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Blake and Lee's show is based on everyday Australians who recount their hilarious true tales which are then reenacted by some familiar faces.
Michael Healy, Nine’s director of television told The Daily Telegraph that True Story’s success was due to the show meeting the tastes of local viewers.
“I think what it says is that the audience is looking for something new and different, and that they also love Australian stories and locally made content,” Healy said.
“They also love to laugh. True Story is the sum of many parts, but it’s hit a sweet spot.”
