In Australia, granulated sugar is labelled as white sugar and is most commonly used in baking and as an additive to hot beverages like tea and coffee.
It has a sweet taste and you can recognize it by its large white granules. Icing sugar, on the other hand, is powdered granulated sugar which has a superfine, powdery consistency.
